Entrances Team

Entrances is the group responsible for the “windows and doorways”
into the life and ministry of St. Michael’s Church.  They are presently
looking at all sorts of ways to make the Sunday morning experience
at our church the most inviting and hospitable one possible for
our guests.  They are then responsible for following up with new people
and welcoming them, if they desire, into our new members ministry.
Entrances is also actively engaged in evangelistic efforts of the church
including our Alpha program.

To get involved, contact Lynn Zobel at lynnzobel@yahoo.com.

Discipleship Team

St. Michael’s is deeply concerned with forming the whole disciple, from birth to very old age.  We love it when people attend our worship services, but it is even more gratifying to see people grow and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ.  The  Discipleship Team helps make that happen.  It includes our programs for Christian formation: Early Childhood/Nursery, Sunday School and Tuesday Nights Kidz, Youth Group, and Adult Education.  The Discipleship Team also plays a big role in our “Super Tuesday” program where there are multiple opportunities for leaning, both for children and adults.  Discipleship also oversees our fledgling Small Group (Bible Study) Ministry.

To get involved, contact Fr. Scott Seefeldt at skotallen@yahoo.com.

Worship Team

Worship Team oversees and facilitates our primary privilege and duty as Christians: the worship of Almighty God.  This is a big team with a lot of players.  We take our worship seriously at St. Michael’s, and it takes a lot of people to do it well – musicians, sound and visual support, flower ministry, acolytes, ushers, lectors, sacristans, Eucharistic ministers, and many more!  We are a church in the (small ‘c’) catholic liturgical tradition.  You should find or worship reverent and relevant, stately and Spirit-filled, thanks in no small part to our Worship Team.

To get involved, contact Fr. Scott Seefeldt at skotallen@yahoo.com.

Fellowship Team

The church is a family, and the family needs times to come together to eat, play, and just hang out. The  Fellowship Team provides opportunities for just that.  These are the folks that put a cup of coffee in your hands as you walk out of the worship service and connect  you with somebody to talk to.  These are they folks who oversee our Kitchen Ministry and make our Tuesday night meals so spectacular.  They also coordinate parish events such as are annual hayride and picnic.  There is a never-ending need for people to be involved in helping out with Fellowship!

To get involved, contact Bernadette Poetker at bpoetker@stmichaelsracine.org.

Communications Team

This team has been charged with keeping St. Michael’s on the frontline of effective communication, both within the church and within our larger community of Racine.  They have been actively thinking of new methods to get important info to people in a timely manner, as well as evaluating how well old systems are working.  They are responsible for website revision, public relations, our monthly newsletter “The Messenger,” Sunday announcements, and other printed material.  This is a relatively new Ministry Team to St. Michael’s, and they would be happy to hear from you if you have interest or experience in this type of work!

To get involved, please contact Stephanie Seefeldt at stephseefeldt@yahoo.com.

Prayer Team

St. Michael’s Church is a community at prayer.  Prayer is woven into the very fabric of who we are as a fellowship of disciples of the Risen Christ.  Jesus himself taught us to pray two thousand years ago, and we follow in that teaching to this day.  The Prayer Team is the organization upon which we hang our devotional hat.  They organize Chapel Prayer Ministry that occurs throughout our Sunday Services, Open Prayer Nights every other Wednesday, our email prayer chain, and many other prayer ministries.

If you love to pray with others and would like to get involved, or you need to be prayed for by others and perhaps receive anointing with oil and the laying on of hands for healing, please contact Kate Powers at k8kapow@wi.rr.com .

Pastoral Care Team

This is a group of people whose passion is helping others in times of need and ensuring all the rest of the time that St. Michael’s is a caring community.  There are multiple ways in which the Pastoral Care Team gets this done: through two separate meal programs, parish nurses, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Community of Hope lay counseling program, God of All Caring ministry to those unable to leave their homes, and many others.  People within the church and the community around us have many needs, both physical and spiritual.  If you have gifts of compassion and caring, get plugged into this team!

To get involved, please contact Kate Powers at k8kapow@wi.rr.com.

Missions Team

The word “mission” has many connotations.  For some it means evangelism – introducing people to Jesus Christ for the first time.  For others has a more social meaning – feeding and sheltering the homeless.  The Bible does not give us the option of pitting one against the other.  Therefore we approach our mission work at St. Michael’s from a both/and starting point.  We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in word and deed. We have three major areas of emphasis – local, domestic, and international missions.  We support and participate in the St. Patrick’s Meal Program in the City of Racine; we support seminarians in order to ensure quality clergy for the future; and we send teams of workers and evangelists to various places in our country and far away places like Sudan.

To get involved, please contact Bob Bagley at rbagley43@wi.rr.com.

Hidden behind the scenes are other teams and committees of people whose job it is to make sure that St. Michael’s has everything it needs to accomplish the mission and vision of the church.  This includes the parish staff, vestry, junior and senior wardens, Buildings and Grounds Committee, Finance Committee, and many others.  These people work very hard oftentimes without much praise.  So, if you know somebody who serves in one of these capacities, take time to say thanks and give them a hug!  If you love to help out, if you love to work with your hands, if you love to serve in church leadership and you have a lot of good ideas, then consider getting involved!
